Love after love

I really liked and identified with this poem, especially now and I wish to share it. It reminds me yet again that love starts on the inside first and it has become abundantly clear to me that I may have closed my heart little by little as I progressed through life. I bought into all the things I was told as a child and one of them was that I was unwanted and I somehow translated that into not lovable or loved and this became my reality and my inner dialogue became a reflection of that lie. This poem is a gift to myself and I give it now to you with an open heart and love as my motivation.....may this touch you deep inside as it does me.

The time will come

when, with elation,

you will greet yourself arriving

at your own door, in your own mirror,

and each will smile at the other's welcome,

and say, sit here. Eat.

You will love again the stranger who was your self.

Give wine. Give bread. Give back your heart

to itself, to the stranger who has loved you

all your life, whom you ignored

for another, who knows you by heart.

Take down the love letters from the bookshelf,

the photograph, the desperate notes,

peel your own image from the mirror.

Sit. Feast on your life.
