Stone Soup...sharing our gifts to widely benefit all.

I love this piece....as always, the Daily Ohm, delivers a very succinct piece on the benefits of sharing as opposed to holding during times of deprivation.

It is a good reminder that we must remember to share our gifts and that the energy we put out always returns multiplied.

Stone Soup

Imagine a world in which we all shared our gifts and bounty with each other, rather than focusing on self-preservation.

There are many variations on the story of stone soup, but they all involve a traveler coming into a town beset by famine. The inhabitants try to discourage the traveler from staying, fearing he wants them to give him food. They tell him in no uncertain terms that there's no food anywhere to be found. The traveler explains that he doesn't need any food and that, in fact, he was planning to make a soup to share with all of them. The villagers watch suspiciously as he builds a fire and fills a cauldron with water. With great ceremony, he pulls a stone from a bag, dropping the stone into the pot of water. He sniffs the brew extravagantly and exclaims how delicious stone soup is. As the villagers begin to show interest, he mentions how good the soup would be with just a little cabbage in it. A villager brings out a cabbage to share. This episode repeats itself until the soup has cabbage, carrots, onions, and beets -- indeed, a substantial soup that feeds everyone in the village.

This story addresses the human tendency to hoard in times of deprivation. When resources are scarce, we pull back and put all of our energy into self-preservation. We isolate ourselves and shut out others. As the story of stone soup reveals, in doing so, we often deprive ourselves and everyone else of a feast. This metaphor plays out beyond the realm of food. We hoard ideas, love, and energy, thinking we will be richer if we keep them to ourselves, when in truth we make the world, and ourselves, poorer whenever we greedily stockpile our reserves. The traveler was able to see that the villagers were holding back, and he had the genius to draw them out and inspire them to give, thus creating a spread that none of them could have created alone.

Are you like one of the villagers, holding back? If you come forward and share your gifts, you will inspire others to do the same. The reward is a banquet that can nourish many.

FEAR..the new accessory????

Fear has become the new fashionable accessory.

We wear it everywhere, we judge everyone through it and we allow our lives to be governed by it.

We cannot leave our homes, offices or workplaces without it. Take a moment to think about this...you have allowed fear to override you liberties, your judgment and your choices. You have given away your personal power to fear. You have put in on like a favorite accessory. You are cloaking yourself with it like a winter coat.

You fear the people around you, you fear leaving the “security” of your house. When did we become so fearful of each other, of the differences in the world, of viruses and bacteria that not only make up our environment but that live within us? Should we not be curious about that which we do not know or understand. Does it not warrant more inspection, a closer look to understand and know that which you do not know? FEAR has paralyzed us from looking for our own answers and solutions to becoming followers of those who create and perpetuate the fear. It has made us fall or stay stuck in old perceptions and habits.

FEAR...this is why we cannot bring in more love, more light, more compassion, more understanding. There is no space for any of these life affirming emotions and qualities when you have occupied the space with fear.

And when we are wearing our favorite fashion accessory(fear) we are so easily controlled, manipulated and shamed into doing that which we would normally never do. We are so easily dominated and we can so easily blame others for our emotions.

It is time to let go of fear. Do what you need to to rise above this to embrace and wear a new energy. The energy of love, of oneness.  FEAR is just the lack of understanding, of the unknown, so go out and explore, ask questions, confront your fears so you can create a better life, a better world.

The larger your fear the smaller your world and the lower your energy and vitality, making you more susceptible to that which you fear in the first place.

CHOOSE another accessory to adorn your beautiful being and be the love and light you are meant to be. DO not let the world around you chose how you move through it. Be courageous.

FEAR...real or imagined?

"Fear is a limitation of our minds. People have so much fear about getting sick or about becoming homeless or whatever. Anger is fear that becomes a defense mechanism. It protects you and yet it would be much more powerful for you to do affirmations so you can stop recreating fearful situations in your minds, and love yourself through the fear. Again, nothing comes from outside of us. We are at the center of everything that happens in our lives. Everything is inside—every experience, every relationship, is a mirror of a mental pattern that we have inside us."

                                                            ~ Louise Hay

Affirmations are great to redirect our thoughts to something more productive. Our thoughts create our reality and it becomes critical to watch our repetitive thoughts if we wish to change our world (our creations) And as we have thousands of thoughts daily we can certainly check if our thoughts are uplifting or not and this we do by checking how we are feeling. If you feel good and positive and vital then your thoughts are uplifting. If you do not then most of your thoughts are lowering your energy and vibration and this attract the same frequency of energy, so more situations, thoughts and feelings that makes you feel crappy, more fearful etc.

Fear is also usually and indicator that you are not living in the present moment. You are in the past or the future. Feeling that fear in the present moment brings you back from the what ifs to the what is and what can I think and do, and create to have a different outcome that creates better feelings and empowers us.

Having the courage to face your own emotions/fears is the first step in increasing your energy and vitality. It is also the turning point on a journey towards enlightenment and opening the heart to allow more love for self and others. (see the Map of consciousness by David Hawkins PhD)

Fear is, as a famous saying goes,  "False Evidence Appearing Real"

" If you look into your own heart,  and you find nothing wrong there, what is there to worry about? What is there to fear?"       ~ Confucius

Is Nasal Irrigation Beneficial in COVID-19?

Is Nasal Irrigation Beneficial in COVID-19?

By Will Boggs MD - July 31, 2020

NEW YORK (Reuters Health) - Nasal irrigation might relieve symptoms and reduce transmission of SARS-CoV-2 in patients with COVID-19, according to a new report.

It has been unclear whether topical nasal saline irrigation mitigates viral effects or potentiates viral transmission or has no impact whatsoever, write Dr. John S. Schneider of Washington University School of Medicine, St. Louis, in Missouri, and colleagues.

The authors review the current evidence on the potential effects of nasal saline irrigations and their adjuncts with viral upper respiratory illnesses in an opinion piece in JAMA Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery.

Nasal rinses physically disrupt the viscous surface layer, removing mucus and particulate matter, and increase hydration of the deeper aqueous layer, thereby improving underlying ciliary beat frequency and reducing local inflammatory mediators. These effects can be particularly helpful during a viral respiratory infection where mucociliary dysfunction and mucostasis can result from the inflammatory response.

The best tonicity of saline used for nasal rinses remains unclear, as does the potential value of adding steroid compounds to saline irrigations. Betadine and other iodine derivatives have been shown to reduce coronavirus levels in vitro, but it remains unclear whether they can decrease viral transmission in vivo, the authors say.

Potential risks of nasal irrigation should also be taken into account, including the possibility that irrigation might increase viral shedding (and, therefore, transmission) and the possibility that the nasal-rinse bottle might serve as a vector for transmission.

"Thus, patients should practice good hand hygiene and decontaminate the surrounding surfaces (e.g., sink, counters) and plastic rinse bottle to prevent subsequent infection," the authors note.

"Given the safety profile of these therapies, hypertonic saline nasal irrigations should be encouraged for patients and health care workers especially," they conclude. "For our patients with chronic rhinosinusitis, continued use of steroid irrigations should be encouraged.”

"Emerging research is expected to shed further light on saline irrigation's protective and therapeutic effect on COVID-19," they add.

Dr. David King of the University of Queensland, in Australia, who recently reviewed the role of nasal saline irrigation in a variety of settings, told Reuters Health by email, "The research on the role of nasal saline irrigation is certainly still patchy and in an early stage of development. We can only extrapolate with low level of certainty the current research to its presumptive benefit for reducing COVID-19 infection risk.”

"There are no significant contraindications to nasal saline spray, but minor adverse effects, particularly burning and stinging sensation in the nose, may limit its use in some people," he said.

"The benefit of saline nasal irrigation for preventing and treating COVID-19 infection is yet to be established, but it is worth considering its use, as it is safe and cheap and has demonstrated benefit in treating viral and allergic rhinitis," added Dr. King, who was not involved in the new report.

"Saline nasal irrigation may provide a small reduction in infection risk and duration," he said. "However, at best it will be a small part of the wider control measures that include behavioral and pharmaceutical interventions.”

Dr. Rakesh K. Chandra of Vanderbilt University Medical Center, in Nashville, Tennessee, who recently reviewed the use of nasal saline irrigation in chronic rhinosinusitis, told Reuters Health by email, "All of these treatment decisions are based on risk versus harm considerations. With proper precautions (distilled water, cleaning the bottle and surrounding surfaces, as the authors note), irrigations are valuable with little to no risk.”

"Hypothetically, rinses with iodine might carry less risk of disseminating virus since any collateral droplets would have the iodine," he added. "There may also be a role for surfactant irrigations, which are essentially dilute soap solutions. These are known to disrupt the viral capsid.”

Dr. Schneider did not respond to a request for comments.

Fear and Anxiety

Impact of Fear and Anxiety

Fear is a human emotion that is triggered by a perceived threat. It is a basic survival mechanism that signals our bodies to respond to danger with a fight or flight response. As such, it is an essential part of keeping us safe.
However, when people live in constant fear, whether from physical dangers in their environment or threats they perceive, they can become incapacitated.

How fear works

Fear prepares us to react to danger. Once we sense a potential danger, our body releases hormones that:
  • Slow or shut down functions not needed for survival (such as our digestive system)
  • Sharpen functions that might help us survive (such as eyesight). Our heart rate increases, and blood flows to muscles so we can run faster.
Our body also increases the flow of hormones to an area of the brain known as the amygdala to help us focus on the presenting danger and store it in our memory.

Impact of chronic fear

Living under constant threat has serious health consequences.
  1. Physical health.
  2. Fear weakens our immune system and can cause cardiovascular damage, gastrointestinal problems such as ulcers and irritable bowel syndrome, and decreased fertility.  It can lead to accelerated ageing and even premature death.
  3. Memory.
  4. Fear can impair formation of long-term memories and cause damage to certain parts of the brain, such as the hippocampus. This can make it even more difficult to regulate fear and can leave a person anxious most of the time. To someone in chronic fear, the world looks scary and their memories confirm that.
  5. Brain processing and reactivity.
  6. Fear can interrupt processes in our brains that allow us to regulate emotions, read non-verbal cues and other information presented to us, reflect before acting, and act ethically. This impacts our thinking and decision-making in negative ways, leaving us susceptible to intense emotions and impulsive reactions. All of these effects can leave us unable to act appropriately.
  7. Mental health.
  8.  Other consequences of long-term fear include fatigue, clinical depression, and PSTD.
So whether threats to our security are real or perceived, they impact our mental and physical wellbeing.

Fear and Immunity

HOW FEAR AFFECTS YOUR IMMUNE SYSTEM

Guest Post by Dr Mariah Mosley

Why your health may be severely suffering during the COVID19 outbreak, even if you are not exposed: The scariest part of this pandemic

This isn’t going to be an article trying to convince you the COVID-19 virus isn’t something to worry about, because right now having some fears come up is unavoidable. I primarily attribute this to the media is pushing intense fear/panic at us, by using inaccurate footage1 of overcrowded hospitals in NYC (but it was actually Italy), deaths attributed to COVID19 when the person in question is actually alive and well2, or died from other causes.
The United States as a whole is in a moral panic. Will our jobs be okay? Will the stock market crash? Will we all get sick and die? Do we have enough toilet paper in our house to last six more months?
We have to learn how to deal with this “moral panic”3 that is way more likely to infect our minds than our lungs.

Long-Term Stress and Physical Consequences

First I want to say that it is not inherently abnormal to jump to fear in a state of “crisis”. This is a protective and paramount mechanism that humans have instilled within them: to SURVIVE.
However, this mechanism is meant for short bursts only. When we are in this state of fear and worry for extended periods of time, it will physically cause issues. Countless studies4 have shown this correlation: how “chronic stress has a significant effect on the immune system that ultimately manifest in illness”.
It has been shown to increase the risk of diabetes by altering insulin needs. Stress can cause peptic ulcers or ulcerative colitis, as it can alter the acid in the stomach (side note: low stomach acid is not a good thing, more on PPIs and their dangers here5). Chronic stress and worrying over your fears can also lead to plaque build up in arteries7. It also has a stronger correlation with psychiatric illness, like depression6 and schizophrenia.  There are also recent studies that show a link between stress and tumor development (cancer) and suppression of natural killer cells (the ones that usually destroy cancer in our bodies)8,9.
According to Occupational Health and Safety news and the National Council on compensation of insurance, “up to 90% of all visits to primary care physicians are for stress-related complaints.”4

Fear and the Immune System

Exposure to acute stress, trauma, and fear have been shown in both mice and humans to compromise immune function10 and impair lymphocyte function (lymphocytes are our white blood cells that fight viruses). Fear and stress makes you more vulnerable to infectious diseases.

Strategies to Combat Fear

One technique you can use for fear when it comes up is deep belly breathing with positive affirmations. This helps coax the body into a relaxation mode, and it is very helpful in stressful situations when you feel any anxiety rising up. By breathing down deeply into your belly (not expanding your chest), you are stimulating the Vagus nerve, which runs along the diaphragm to put your body back into parasympathetic mode (calming, slows heart rate, helps digestion).  It’s hard to catch yourself before going into the rabbit hole of fear, but it is very helpful, and possible with practice!
  1. When you feel the fear and the “what-if” thoughts start to rise up. Stop right where you are. Close your eyes.
  2. Find a positive affirmation of truth that completely counters the previous worry. For example: for fear of disease, use “My body is strong, healthy, and I trust my immune system”. Or for fear of financial loss, use “I am capable of anything, and trust that God has my back in this”.  Find whatever works for you.
  3. Place your hands over your lower belly, with your pointer and middle fingers touching.
  4. Breath deep into your belly through your nose. Your hands should separate slightly as you breathe in.
  5. Breathe out all the way, slowly through your mouth.
  6. Do 10-20 deep breaths, then open your eyes and notice if you feel more grounded and stable.

Let the river of energy flow. (a simple look at the chakras)

Watching a children's show...the last Airbender on NICK and found this explanation simple and  profound...

Chakras are like little pools of energy connected to each other and these pools need to be open to flow from one to another..."Let the river flow"

Each chakra has a specific purpose and can be blocked by emotional muck. Opening your chakras is an intense experience and must not be stopped until all 7 are open...

Root chakras: (base of the spine)
It deals with survival and is blocked by fear
(what are you most afraid of? Fears are an illusion. You are concerned with your survival but must surrender those fears...let your fears flow down the creek)

Sacral chakra (water chakra)
This chakra deals with pleasure and is blocked by guilt.
Look at all the guilt that burdens you. What do you blame yourself for???
Accept the reality that these things happened but do not let them cloud and poison your energy. If you are to be a positive influence on the world, you need to forgive yourself (and others)

Third Chakra: Solar Plexus (Fire chakra) Located in the stomach
This chakra deals with real power and is blocked by shame.
What are you ashamed of and what are your biggest disappointments in yourself?
You will never find balance if you deny this part of your life....You are who you are.

Fourth Chakra: Heart chakra
This deals with love and is blocked by grief...lay all your grief out in front of you...release all your sadness and loss. Love is a form of energy that swirls all around us. Those that have loved you have not left, their love is still inside of your heart and is reborn in the form of new love. Let the pain flow out.

The Fifth Chakra: Throat...Sound chakra
Deals with truth and is blocked by lies...the ones we tell ourselves. You cannot lie about your own nature and must accept who you are. The god within you, the creator of your world.
Now open the chakra of truth.

The sixth Chakra (third eye)...Light chakra
Deals with insight and is blocked by Illusion.
The greatest illusion in this world is the illusion of separation. Release the illusions within.
Things we think are separate and different are actually one and the same...(different nations/nationalities/ color/ religions etc)
We are all one people but we live as if divided. We are all connected, a collective consciousness. Everything is connected even the four elements...open your mind, you will see all elements are one...four parts of the same whole.

The seventh Chakra: The though chakra...The Crown
Deals with pure cosmic energy and is blocked by earthly attachment. Meditate on what attaches you to this world. Let go of all that you have grown to love...let go of all those attachments, let them flow down the river. You cannot let the Cosmic energy from the Universe flow through you without letting go of all attachments...Realize that letting go doesn't mean that it truly disappears. You are then able to connect to your perfect, or "higher self"
With the flow of energy through this chakra comes complete control and awareness of all your thoughts and actions.

What a simple way to look deep within and identify where and what your blocks are and let them go and allow the creek of energy flow.

You stole my soul!

As many may know I have closed my office in Monticello and have taken a bit of a sabbatical to work on my personal journey to health and this is what I wrote due to that:

Dear mother,

You gave me a body to journey through this world and supplied little else. Your breast was denied me and with it, colostrum, taurine and nurturing! The good bacteria inoculation at birth would have been free, but you couldn't give that, instead you gave me psychological damage and many valuable lessons to learn...an education well earned!!

I even doubt the thought of feeding my brain with fish oils entered your mind, instead you fed it with doubt, fear and uncertainty.

The joys of childhood escaped as you watched and blamed not yourself but me.

................thank you for being the vessel of my birth as I now turn to my true mother, the one that nurtures, sustains my life, cares and embraces me, mother earth.

H1N1...what??

Seriously,

Every year at this time when the seasons change everyone gets a cold. There is sneezing, wheezing, coughing and little red noses. And every year there is a huge media hype about swine flu and some pending epidemic.
Why are the pharmaceutical Industry and the media such great bed pals? Here are some of my thoughts and questions to ponder on:
Who spends the most money on advertising and still has the largest marketing budget in today's economy? And who stands to loose the most money when opposing these giant spenders?

Is a vaccine created before or after a pending epidemic is advertised? From my observations it seems that a vaccine is created and then the market for it gets created via the media and medical Industry and then the fear tactics start, to ensure that everyone rushes to get the vaccine to avoid the pandemic, and that is a smoke screen for the pharmaceutical Industry to make more money.
I, frankly am so tired of all the idiots that buy into all of this and that cannot think for themselves. When in doubt research, ask questions and get educated/informed. With so many avenues to be informed out there, it just shows your ignorance if you trust your personal wellbeing to money giants that really DO NOT give a hoot about how many fatalities/ill effects there are, as long as they make their money.

Vaccines have been such a controversial issue for so many years and today there are many
medical professionals that have said that the risk for the H1N1 vaccine is too high and they will not get the vaccine themselves or recommend it to any of their family.

It is healthy to get a cold at least a few times a year to shake up the Immune system. I am not saying all colds are harmless.....that really depends on the health of the individual inflicted, or rather, the health of their immune system, amongst other things. But to target small children who's immune systems are not even properly formed yet or old people who already have compromised immune systems is indicative of the greed that is fueling our health system currently. These bedfellows feed on the fear that they create to line their pockets.

When we allow our fears to take over we tend to believe anything no matter how preposterous it would seem to us normally. What a great way to control the masses. It has been a success for many centuries. Religion uses it, world powers use it, even kids on the play ground use it, and why should pharmaceutical giants not use it.
The question is, are you going to allow fear to erode everything....erode your health and the health of all those you love. When is this fear mongering going to reach a point where you say STOP, enough, I AM in control???
